How to clean a 3D-printed lamp

Before cleaning any table lamp, turn it off, unplug it, and give the bulb and fixture time to cool completely. This is the quiet step that makes the rest straightforward. It protects you from heat and keeps the lamp stable while you work around a shade, cord, and base.

Place the lamp on a clear, steady surface. If it has a more sculptural or uneven silhouette, support it from the base rather than lifting it by the shade. That small habit helps preserve the relationship between the printed form and the electrical hardware inside.

Most care is simply dust management. Use a clean, soft, dry cloth and move across the surface without pressing hard into the texture. A lightly handled lamp usually needs very little more than that, and dry cleaning avoids leaving moisture in the seams, joints, or around electrical components.

Work from the top down so dust does not fall back onto parts you have already cleaned. Take a moment around the cord exit, base edge, and any recessed detail, where ordinary household dust tends to settle first.

Ribs, folds, and visible print layers are part of the lamp's surface language. Clean along their direction with a gentle touch instead of scrubbing across them. This keeps the finish looking even and prevents a small maintenance task from becoming an attempt to make a material look unnaturally smooth.

Avoid abrasive pads, rough brushes, or aggressive cleaners. A sculptural lamp should be used, not treated as untouchable, but the material and finish do best with uncomplicated care rather than heavy-duty household products.

Care continues after the cloth is put away. Keep a table lamp away from direct heat sources and avoid leaving it in strong, prolonged direct sunlight. Give the cord enough room that it is not pulled tight around the base or trapped under furniture, and make sure the surface beneath the lamp is stable.

These are ordinary habits, but they help a well-made object stay present for longer. A lamp earns its place by being part of daily life; thoughtful care simply lets the material, light, and silhouette keep doing their work.
